Online application for a debit card for teenagers and children
How debit cards for children and teenagers work
All available debit cards for teenagers and children operate on the same principle as standard banking products. You can only use your own funds in the card account; no credit limits or overdrafts are provided. These banking products are issued with the consent of legal representatives, in whose name the agreement for the teenager/child debit card is actually concluded.

If the child is under 14 years old, banks issue cards linked to an additional banking product, such as:
- A debit account is available.
- A deposit account or savings account is opened.
- A credit account is opened.
Please note that all third-party banking services for children are issued exclusively in the name of their legal representatives. Thus, the parent bears personal responsibility for the spending of funds by the child.
In this case, the parent tops up the child's account independently and regulates the financial flow. The legal representative can use internet banking or a mobile app to set restrictions on the child's card, such as daily or monthly spending limits.
If children are between 14 and 18 years old, previously opened deposits and accounts are managed by the legal representative, with the option to set restrictions. In other cases, a minor can open a card on their own, while fully understanding that legal representatives bear responsibility for financial actions involving the banking product until the minor reaches the age of 18.
For example, let's look at the Junior debit card for children and teenagers. This banking product features an original design and great loyalty programs in the form of cashback. The child can manage the card independently, earn bonuses and points, but the parent has the right to monitor the child's financial activities. For monitoring purposes, it is recommended to enable SMS notifications to receive information about the minor's deposits and spending. The parent can set an option where SMS notifications require the parent to send a secret code to authorize spending transactions made by the child. This way, financial transactions can be protected from fraudulent activities, and imprudent use of funds by the minor can be prevented.
How to apply for a debit card for children and minors
To issue a debit card for children and teenagers, the financial services comparison service recommends that parents and children review the features of the banking product together. The application is submitted by the parent or guardian of the child. Later, when visiting the bank, the liability agreement is signed by the parent—mandatory for children under 14, and in accordance with the minimum requirements of the bank and Russian legislation for those 14 and older.

- Next, after the bank approves the application, you need to visit the nearest branch of the credit institution.
- Present the identity document of the legal representative—parent or guardian—to the bank employee.
- Provide the bank teller with the minor's document—passport or birth certificate.
- Fill out the liability agreement with the bank.
- For citizens aged 14-18, the presence of parents is optional; however, for security purposes, it is best to issue the banking product in the presence of a legal representative.
The card's validity period ranges from 3 to 5 years, depending on the banking products offered by the credit institution.

At what age is it recommended to get a card for a child and teenager
There are no uniform requirements for using debit cards for children and teenagers. However, banks apply uniform recommendations from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and other organizations regarding the protection of children's interests. It is recommended to get a debit card for a child starting at age 6-7, as during this period minors can be taught how to use a banking product.
The parent assumes liability rights for the debit card in their own name. When submitting the application, the bank recommends the following:
- Teach the child to block the card themselves in case of loss or to notify the legal representative immediately.
- The parent enables internet banking and monitors the children's financial transactions.
- The parent enables SMS alerts, which are intended not only for transactions made by the minor, but also as confirmation of consent for spending (the parent will send a reply SMS to authorize purchases made by the child).
Remember that all spending is tied to parental responsibility. If the bank provides for participation in a loyalty program, such as cashback, teach your child how to use the promotion correctly. If the child cannot complete the transaction independently, make purchases together. The ideal option is to teach the minor the principles of financial literacy. You make joint purchases and demonstrate how a debit card works in practice.
Which banks issue debit cards for teenagers and children
Remember that in most cases, children's debit cards involve annual maintenance. As a rule, the maintenance cost ranges from 150 to 1,000 RUB. The fee is charged once a year. Some banks waive the annual maintenance fee. At the same time, having annual maintenance provides for connecting loyalty programs in the form of cashback. Unfortunately, the interest-on-balance program is offered by only a few banks, and only subject to joint spending with a parent.

- Sberbank, product "Card 7+", the children's card is opened as additional to the main card of the parent or guardian. The maintenance cost is calculated individually and depends on the main critical account of the legal representative.
- Raiffeisenbank, "Detskaya" card, available for children from 6 years old, maintenance is 490 RUB per year.
- Binbank, "Junior" debit card, available for children from 6 years old, annual maintenance is 600 RUB.
- Bank Vostochny, "Card Number One – Children's" debit card, available for children aged 6 to 14 years with a maintenance fee of 99 RUB per month.
- Alfa-Bank, "Detskaya-Junior" debit card, available for children from 7 years old, maintenance is only 790 RUB (cashback is available).
- T-Bank, Tinkoff Black debit card, available from 14 years old, maintenance is 99 RUB for 1 month.
- Sberbank, "Molodezhnaya" card, available from 14 years old, maintenance is only 150 RUB, "Thank you from Sberbank" cashback is available.
- Raiffeisenbank, "Debetovaya" card, available for teenagers from 14 years old, maintenance cost is 1,200 RUB per year.
Please note that T-Bank and Vostochny waive the annual maintenance fee for the "Detskaya" debit card if the parent or guardian has a main card account where monthly spending amounts to at least 30,000 RUB.
A debit card for children is an alternative to giving a child pocket money. Even if the card is lost, you can block it instantly, and the funds will remain safe. By issuing cards for your children, you thus instill financial literacy in them. Be sure to enable SMS notifications for spending, and in this way you will both protect yourself against fraudulent actions by third parties and limit uncontrolled spending by your child.
