Best credit cards with low rates
What to look for when choosing a low-interest credit card

It is important to remember that when studying a low-interest credit card, you should pay attention to the following parameters:
- In its marketing program, the bank indicates that the credit limit cannot exceed a set value. For example, if a card has a limit of up to 300,000 RUB, a credit limit higher than this value will not be approved for you. In addition, this offer also provides a low approval threshold for the application. The minimum value is also set by the credit institution. For example, a credit limit of up to 350,000 RUB provides for a minimum credit of 5,000 RUB and even lower.
- The interest rate is most often stated starting from a certain minimum value, for example, from 11.99%. This means that the bank will announce its own interest rate for the credit offer. As a rule, banks indicate values from and to, for example, from 11.99% to 49.9%.
- A low interest rate will usually be specified for a higher value of the credit line, while a high rate applies if the credit is at its lowest.
- Throughout the entire period of using credit funds, the bank increases the limit and decreases the interest rate to the value specified in the tariff plan.
- Each card has its own tariff plan, which specifies all the conditions and minimum requirements that must be met by the borrower.
Credit institutions have the right to set their own rates, but the value cannot exceed or fall outside the limits regulated by the Central Bank of Russia. The regulator sets benchmark rates for commercial banks annually or quarterly. This is to prevent banks from creating predatory lending terms for individuals and legal entities. According to the credit card rate calculation methodology, the Central Bank of Russia recommends setting the following types:
- Fixed rate with unchanging value.
- Floating rate with a variable value parameter.
To clarify, a fixed rate is specified in the credit agreement and cannot be changed under any circumstances, meaning the borrower pays the interest specified in the agreement. A floating rate is more complex. The bank has the right to increase or decrease the interest rate. However, the credit institution cannot change the rate without specifying this in the credit card agreement. Essentially, the borrower must know the mechanism that will regulate the interest rate should such a situation arise.
A floating rate is controversial, which is why banks immediately warn borrowers that the initial rate is always high, but a rate reduction principle is provided for later on in the agreement. At the same time, a reduction in the interest rate entails an increase in the credit line for the banking product.
In addition, one should consider the nominal rate, which applies only under inflationary conditions and is otherwise disregarded. The Central Bank of Russia recommends always mentioning this term when concluding an agreement, as any disputes between the borrower and the bank regarding this matter are always resolved in court.

What parameters affect the interest rate for a borrower
To avoid unpleasant surprises when considering an application for a credit card with the lowest interest rate, we recommend taking into account the following factors that influence the final choice of terms for the banking product applicant:

- When reviewing an application, the bank retrieves data on the borrower from the Credit History Bureau. If the borrower has a bad credit history, the bank correspondingly increases the interest rate and decreases the requested credit limit. In essence, this is a form of borrower rehabilitation. After paying off the first loan, the borrower can count on an increase in their credit limit and a decrease in the interest rate.
- The bank takes the client's loyalty into account. For example, if you hold deposits with the bank, your interest rate may be reduced to the absolute minimum, while the loan amount is determined individually.
- The presence of collateral and a guarantor also reduces the interest rate. However, be prepared that if you fail to comply with the terms of the tariff plan, the collateral may be considered a subject of dispute for the recovery of funds, and additional financial obligations will be imposed on your guarantor.
A low interest rate is a successful lending option for those who feel confident in their financial stability and know that no obstacles can frighten them.
If you have never applied to a bank, you do not have a credit history. In this case, the bank may approve only the minimum credit line, but with the highest interest rate. Subsequently, usually after 1–3 months, the bank reviews your case, and a gradual increase in the credit limit begins, along with a decrease in the interest rate to the value specified in the tariff plan.
