Terms for Obtaining Short-Term Loans

Short-term loans

The terms for obtaining microloans are roughly the same across all microfinance organizations. As a rule, an MFI offers from 2,000 to 30,000 RUB for a term of 7 to 30 days. The maximum interest rate can reach 1% per day. Terms may vary depending on the chosen microfinance organization.

Some MFIs run promotional campaigns for new clients. Thus, borrowers who apply to a microfinance organization for the first time can take out a loan without overpayment, i.e., at 0% per day.

Borrower requirements

As a rule, microfinance organizations are more lenient toward their clients than banks. Therefore, their borrower requirements are much softer. Usually, a loan can be obtained by individuals who meet the following conditions:

  • citizenship of the Russian Federation;
  • having permanent or temporary registration within the territory of Russia;
  • aged 18 to 70 years;
  • fully legally capable at the time of application.

As for documents, very few are required. Usually, a passport and SNILS are enough to get a small loan approved. The borrower also needs a debit or credit card with a positive balance and any internet-enabled device.

Pros and Cons of Short-Term Loans

Short-term loans

Let's start with the advantages:

  1. The biggest advantage is the speed of application approval. Large microfinance organizations make a decision to approve or reject within a few minutes of applying.
  2. Loyal attitude toward borrowers. Even people who would be guaranteed a bank loan refusal can get money from an MFI — those without a permanent source of income, without permanent registration in the country, or those who have had past overdue payments on other credit products.
  3. The ability to get money without leaving home. Almost all microfinance organizations operate remotely. Therefore, you can apply and get a loan from anywhere in the country.
  4. Minimal package of documents. MFIs do not request income and employment certificates — only a passport and SNILS are required to apply.

Now let's move on to the disadvantages:

  1. The most significant disadvantage of short-term loans is the very high interest rate. It often reaches 292% per annum compared to 20% per annum in banks.
  2. Small loan amount. It is rare to get more than 100,000 RUB from a microfinance organization. New clients can only apply for a maximum of 30,000 RUB.
  3. Short lending term. In fact, loans are issued until the next payday — the term rarely exceeds 30–35 days.
