Loan secured by a vehicle title. An opportunity to get large amounts of money at interest for any purpose. We will talk about what vehicle-secured lending is, how it differs from a regular consumer loan and car loan, and what its advantages and disadvantages are.
What is a loan secured by a vehicle title?
Collateral is a form of security for a consumer loan. It guarantees that you will fulfill your obligations to the lender, even if unforeseen circumstances arise.
This type of loan allows credit organizations to reduce risks associated with non-fulfillment of obligations by borrowers.
The mere transfer of the vehicle title as collateral does not mean you cannot use the vehicle. You will still be able to drive the car. But you will not be able to gift it, sell it, or pledge it to another credit organization.
Secured loans have a number of advantages over unsecured consumer loans:
- Low interest rate. A regular consumer loan can be issued at 15% per annum. Meanwhile, for a secured loan, banks offer an overpayment starting from an average of 4% per annum.
- Large loan amount. With a regular consumer loan, it rarely exceeds 5 million RUB. And with collateral, you can get 15 or even 30 million RUB.
- Long loan term. Without collateral, it usually does not exceed 5 years. And with collateral, the bank can issue a loan for a term of up to 15 or up to 30 years.
At the same time, favorable terms come with the risk of losing property. If you stop paying under the agreement, the rights to the collateralized property will pass to the lender. The bank will be able to sell the vehicle to close your debt.
Therefore, to avoid losing your vehicle, before applying for a loan, we recommend assessing your financial situation and taking on new credit obligations only if you are confident in your solvency.

How does a car-secured loan differ from a regular consumer loan?
The main difference between vehicle title lending and a regular consumer loan is the presence of collateral. It allows you to get a loan on more favorable terms — at a lower interest rate and for a larger amount and term.
As with regular consumer lending, the money can be spent on any purpose, unless otherwise specified in the credit agreement.
Another difference is the opportunity to get money with a bad credit history. If banks refuse a regular loan, you can apply for a vehicle-secured loan. In this case, the probability of a positive decision will be higher.
How does a vehicle title loan differ from a car loan?
Money received against a vehicle can be spent on any purpose. For example, buying appliances, real estate, paying for a vacation, education, and more. In the case of a car loan, funds can only be spent on purchasing a new or used car.
Advantages and disadvantages of a vehicle title loan
The main advantage of such a loan is that clients with a poor credit history or high debt load can qualify. This does not mean the bank will not check the borrower's background. The lending institution will still request credit history, income documents, and employment verification. However, it will overlook past delinquencies, existing loans, microloans, and credit cards.
A vehicle-secured loan also has other advantages:
- Large loan amount. Banks typically issue up to 50% of the car's value. Therefore, if the vehicle is expensive, the funds may be sufficient for a major purchase, such as real estate. Meanwhile, standard consumer loans usually cap at a maximum of 5 million RUB.
- No co-borrowers or guarantors required. The loan is already secured by the vehicle. As a result, the probability of a positive application decision is high, and the client does not need a co-borrower or guarantor.
- Low interest rate. The bank takes on lower risks when issuing a loan secured by a vehicle title. For this reason, the lending institution can offer more favorable loan terms. Typically, the interest rate for such lending starts from 4% per annum.
This type of lending also has disadvantages:
- Risk of losing the vehicle. If the borrower encounters an unforeseen situation or simply decides not to fulfill their obligations to the creditor, ownership of the vehicle will transfer to the bank. In this case, there is also a risk that the proceeds from selling the car will not be enough to fully repay the loan. Consequently, the client risks losing both their car and remaining in debt.
- The loan amount is almost always lower than the market value of the car. Banks usually issue no more than 50% of the vehicle's price.

Conclusion
To summarize. A vehicle-secured loan offers more favorable terms — a lower interest rate, along with higher loan amounts and longer terms. However, you must be prepared for the fact that if you fail to fulfill your contractual obligations, ownership of the vehicle will transfer to the bank, and you will lose your car. Therefore, before taking out a loan, we recommend assessing your financial situation and only committing if you are confident in your solvency.
