Usually, MFI clients are people who, for some reason, are denied by banks. For example, this can happen due to a zero or bad credit history, insufficient income, or the lack of official employment. At the same time, there is an opinion that microfinance organizations are ready to issue microloans to absolutely everyone. Let's talk about whether this is true and if there are MFIs that give money to everyone without denial.

Are there MFIs that issue loans to absolutely everyone?

It is no secret that microcredit companies are more lenient toward their clients than banks. However, this does not mean that MFIs do not check credit history and are ready to issue a microloan to anyone who asks for money.

Microfinance organizations are only willing to overlook certain nuances, such as a poor credit history, a high debt-to-income ratio, a lack of formal employment, or irregular income. However, clients with active delinquencies, ongoing litigation, or criminal records will likely be rejected even by the smallest and least reliable microcredit company.

Why do MFIs deny loan applications?

Microfinance organizations, like banks, do not disclose the reasons for loan denials. However, the most common reasons for not issuing a microloan are as follows:

  1. Poor credit history. This is the most frequent reason for loan denial. Although microfinance organizations are more lenient toward their borrowers than banks, they are unlikely to work with a client who has active delinquencies, pending lawsuits, or an ongoing bankruptcy procedure. A zero credit history can also be a reason for denial if the client applies to a popular and reliable MFI.
  2. High debt-to-income ratio. If a borrower already has active loans and microloans and their debt-to-income ratio exceeds 50%, they will likely be denied credit even by microfinance organizations. This is because lenders do not want to take on additional risks by issuing money to clients who are unlikely to be able to repay the debt.
  3. Applying to multiple MFIs at once. If a borrower submits applications to a dozen microfinance organizations simultaneously, it indicates they are in a dire financial situation. Therefore, responsible and reliable lenders are unlikely to work with a client experiencing such serious financial difficulties.
  4. Inaccurate information in the application. Very often, borrowers provide a higher income or a different place of employment to increase the likelihood of a positive decision. Sometimes providing inaccurate information can indeed help in obtaining a microloan. However, in most cases, such a decision leads to the person being blacklisted by MFIs.
  5. Failure to meet MFI requirements. Usually, microfinance organizations do not impose strict requirements on their clients. Often, borrowers must be citizens of the Russian Federation, have permanent or temporary registration within the country, and be over 18 years old. However, if a client does not meet even these requirements, they will be denied credit.
  6. Recent denial at a microfinance organization. If a borrower was recently denied by an MFI, they should not apply there for a new microloan, as they will likely be denied again. You should wait at least a month before reapplying for a loan.
  7. Lack of a military ID. If a borrower is of conscription age and does not have a military ID, they will likely be denied credit. This is because lenders do not want to take unnecessary risks by issuing microloans to clients who are highly likely to be drafted for military service and fail to repay the debt.
  8. Lack of movable or immovable property. The absence of any assets can be a reason for loan denial, especially if the borrower is applying for a large amount, such as a microloan of 100,000 RUB for a term of up to one year.
  9. Criminal record. If a client has previously been convicted of a crime, they will likely be denied a loan even by the least reliable microfinance organization, as the risk of fraud from such a borrower is considered quite high.

What to do if you are denied microloans?

If a borrower has a very poor credit history, active delinquencies, or a criminal record, they will likely be denied credit without explanation, and none of our tips will work.
However, if a borrower is denied credit without a valid reason, we recommend the following:

  1. Check the application for errors and typos. This happens quite rarely, but sometimes borrowers are denied credit due to a misspelled surname, incorrect passport details, inflated income, etc. Therefore, we first advise checking your application specifically for errors and typos.
  2. Prepare all necessary documents. If a borrower is applying for a large amount, they can provide additional information to increase their chances of approval. For example, a certificate confirming income or employment, or a second document such as a tax ID (INN), insurance certificate (SNILS), international passport, driver's license, etc.
  3. Ask family and your employer to confirm the information provided in the application to the credit specialist. Usually, microfinance organizations request an additional contact number. As a rule, MFIs do not call this number unless there is a payment delinquency. However, if a client requests a large amount, the lender may call the contact number to verify the information provided in the application.
  4. Get a personalized bank card. Usually, you can receive a microloan on a card, to an electronic account, or in cash via a money transfer system. However, to increase the probability of approval, it is worth getting a personalized bank card, depositing money into it to maintain a positive balance, and specifying it as the method for receiving funds.
  5. Improve your appearance. Usually, microfinance organizations require identity verification via a photo of the face with a document. Therefore, to increase your chances of a positive decision on your application, you should look neat and tidy.
  6. Submit the application via Gosuslugi. Some microfinance organization websites allow you to fill out an application by logging in via Gosuslugi. In this case, the borrower does not need to manually enter all the information, as it will be pulled from the database automatically. This method increases the likelihood of microloan approval.
  7. Link your social media accounts. If a borrower has accounts on popular social networks and the microfinance organization provides such an option, it is worth linking your social media to your personal account on the MFI website. This also significantly increases the likelihood of receiving a positive decision on the application.

Who can get a loan without rejection, and what is required for this?

Microfinance organizations do not impose special requirements on their borrowers. For this reason, clients who meet the following requirements can obtain a loan:

  • are citizens of the Russian Federation;
  • have permanent or temporary registration in the country;
  • are over 18 years old;
  • fully legally capable at the time of receiving the microloan.

If a borrower is applying for a long-term loan, the requirements will likely be stricter. However, in most MFIs, the criteria for clients look exactly like this.

To obtain a microloan, a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation is usually sufficient. In some cases, additional identity documents may be required, such as SNILS, INN, a driver's license, an international passport, a military ID, etc.

In addition, to obtain a microloan, you will need any device with internet access, an active mobile phone number, a personalized bank card, or an identified electronic wallet.

What should you pay attention to when choosing a loan and an MFI?

Do not apply to the first microfinance organization you find in a search engine or advertisement. Firstly, the borrower might miss out on an MFI with a truly favorable offer. Furthermore, there is a risk of encountering an unscrupulous lender.
For these reasons, when choosing an MFI and a microloan, we recommend paying attention to the following points:

  1. Whether the MFI has a license to operate. You can verify information about a license on the official website of the Bank of Russia.
  2. Reviews from other clients of the microfinance organization. This information will help you learn about potential pitfalls and difficulties a borrower might face when taking out a loan. You can find reviews from other people on specialized websites.
  3. Lending terms. In particular, we recommend paying attention to the interest rate, methods of repaying the microloan, the possibility of early repayment and loan extension, as well as penalties for late payments.
  4. Requirements for borrowers, as it makes no sense to apply to a company if a person does not meet the criteria the company sets for its clients.

Where to apply for a microloan for absolutely everyone in 2024?

Today, there are quite a few loyal microcredit companies on the market. Due to such an abundance of offers, it can be difficult to find a truly profitable option. For this reason, we recommend paying attention to offers from the following MFIs:

Conclusion

To summarize: there are no microfinance organizations that are ready to give money to absolutely everyone without rejections. If a borrower has a very poor credit history, active delinquencies, pending lawsuits, bankruptcy, or a criminal record, they will likely be rejected even by the smallest MFI. However, there are ways to increase the chance of microloan approval, which we have covered in this article.
