The feature of mini loans is that the borrower can receive a small amount for a short period. For example, 15,000 RUB for up to 30 days. Usually, banks do not issue consumer loans for such small amounts and terms. Therefore, to get such money from a credit organization, a person needs to apply for a credit card. This takes a lot of time and makes no sense if the borrower needs cash. We will explain the terms on which you can get a mini loan in 2024, how to protect yourself when getting a microloan, why you might be refused money, and what to do about it.

On what terms can you get a mini loan in 2024?

The essence of a mini loan is that the borrower can receive money with interest for a short period, usually until payday, but for no more than one month. As a rule, such microloans are issued on uniform terms:

  1. Loan amount. Usually, you can get a mini loan for a small amount, from 1,000 to 30,000 RUB. In rare cases, microfinance organizations issue up to 100,000 RUB.
  2. Loan term. As already mentioned, the essence of a mini loan is that you can get it for a short period, usually from 7 to 30 days. If it is a microloan of up to 100,000 RUB, it is possible to issue it for a period of up to 180 days.
  3. Interest rate. As a rule, it is at the maximum level of 0.8% per day or 292% per annum. However, many microcredit companies have a special offer for new borrowers: the first microloan at 0% provided it is paid on time.
  4. Possibility of early repayment. If the borrower has the opportunity, they can repay the loan earlier than the schedule. In this case, their total overpayment on the microloan will be less. However, it is worth noting that some microcredit companies must be notified in advance of the intention to repay the loan early.
  5. Option to prolong a microloan. If a microfinance organization's client is unable to repay the loan by the due date, they can use the microcredit extension service. While not available at all MFOs, it is offered by many. To prolong a microcredit, it is enough to pay the interest accrued for the actual time the money was used.

Many people are reluctant to turn to microfinance organizations out of fear of falling into a debt trap. However, a mini-loan has several advantages over a standard consumer loan:

  1. Quick microloan processing. In almost all microcredit companies, you can apply for a microcredit online via the official MFO website. To do this, you need to fill out a short application form, go through identity verification, and specify the preferred method of receiving funds. Usually, all this takes no more than 10-15 minutes.
  2. Fast disbursement of funds. As a rule, it takes no more than 30-40 minutes from filling out the application to receiving the money on your card or via any other convenient method. This is significantly faster than getting money through a consumer loan.
  3. Lenient borrower requirements. Microfinance organizations are more loyal to their clients. For example, they overlook such nuances as a poor credit history, high debt load, lack of official employment, and steady income. For this reason, getting a microloan is much easier than a consumer loan.
  4. Minimal document package. Usually, a Russian citizen passport is all that is required to take out a mini-loan. Some MFOs may also ask for your SNILS or INN number. In contrast, consumer loans also require certificates confirming income and employment.

Why might a microloan be denied?

Although microfinance organizations are lenient with their borrowers, they sometimes still deny microloans. This usually happens in the following cases:

  1. Failure to meet borrower requirements. For example, if a microcredit company only issues loans to clients aged 21 and older, an 18-year-old borrower will be denied credit. For this reason, we recommend reviewing the MFO's client requirements in advance.
  2. Due to inaccurate information provided. This does not happen often, but sometimes borrowers enter incorrect information in the application form. For example, they make typos when entering passport details or provide a non-existent registration address. Some clients also inflate their salary or indicate a non-existent workplace to increase the likelihood of loan approval.
  3. Due to a very poor credit history. If a client has allowed significant overdue payments in the past, if creditors have sued them for non-payment, or if they have gone through bankruptcy proceedings, they will most likely be denied microloans even at lesser-known microcredit companies.
  4. Due to a high debt load. If a person has several outstanding loans and microloans, they may be denied another microcredit. This will happen if their debt-to-income ratio exceeds 50% of their salary.

What to do if all MFOs deny your application?

If a borrower is denied by all, even lesser-known microfinance organizations, it means they have a very poor credit history and open overdues. If this is the case, we recommend doing the following before submitting a microcredit application:

  1. Send a request to a credit history bureau (BKI) to check for errors in your credit history. This can happen if a bank or microfinance organization failed to transmit information about a loan repayment. In that case, your credit history will show active debts even though you have paid the creditor in full.
  2. Fully repay debts owed to banks and microcredit companies. This is especially important if legal action has already been initiated against the borrower.
  3. Whenever possible, fully close all microloans and loans, especially if there are overdue payments involved.
  4. Remove any inaccurate information from your application. As already mentioned, some borrowers inflate their income or specify non-existent jobs to boost their chances of approval. If a lender catches an attempt to deceive them, they will blacklist the individual and forward the information to the BKI.

How to protect yourself when taking out a mini-loan?

Some people fear that turning to a microfinance organization will trap them in debt. To prevent this, we recommend following these simple rules:

  1. Make sure the chosen microcredit company is licensed to issue microloans. You can verify this information on the official website of the Central Bank of Russia in the register of microloan organizations.
  2. Carefully review the lending terms before signing the agreement. In particular, we recommend finding the total cost of the microloan, including accrued interest, that will need to be repaid. This will help you assess your financial capabilities and determine whether you can handle the upcoming payment.
  3. Carefully study the loan agreement and make sure the MFO has not included paid additional services. For example, these could include payment text alerts or insurance. The cost of such extra services is usually deducted from the principal microloan amount.
  4. Do not borrow a large amount for a long period. The interest rate on a microloan typically reaches up to 292% per annum. This is significantly higher than the overpayment on a regular consumer loan, meaning the borrower will face a substantial overpayment. Therefore, we recommend taking out a loan only if you need a small amount for a short period.

After receiving the microcredit, we recommend sticking to the repayment schedule. Even with a minor delay, the microfinance organization will charge a penalty for breaching the contract terms, increasing the total loan overpayment. We also recommend keeping all payment slips and receipts. They will come in handy if a dispute arises between the borrower and the MFO and you need to prove that the debt was fully settled.

Where can you get a mini-loan in 2024?

You can get a small payday microloan from almost any microcredit company. At the same time, we recommend looking at offers from the most popular microfinance organizations in 2024.
